Are you an experienced veterinary assistant or certified veterinary technician looking to add a few more hours? At the Humane Society of Jefferson County we have a fantastic opportunity to for you to help rescue and save thousands of animal lives. You’ll be working directly, one-on-one, with our experienced shelter medicine veterinarian to perform medical and surgical duties for a wide range of shelter animals, oversee medical record documentation, and perform in-house laboratory testing. This position works directly with our shelter veterinarian and reports to the Executive Director. This is a part time position of 8-12 hours per week with competitive compensation.

What You’ll Do Most Days
-Perform physical examinations on incoming animals and start treatments according to established protocol
-Identify issues that may need further examination or medical attention -Assist Animal Care Staff in maintaining ongoing treatment protocols
-Ensure that all clinical and medical supplies are stored in a safe, orderly, and secure manner and help maintain the proper ordering and inventory of medications
-Submit lab samples and paperwork to be processed be outside lab services -Assist the shelter veterinarian in the surgical treatment of animals
-Prep surgical area and animals for surgery, provide post-operative recovery care, and sanitization and cleanup of surgical space
-Maintain accurate and timely records for all treatment and care provided to each animal
-Ensure completion of weekly surgery schedule including selection of animals and the coordination of care with veterinarians, staff, and fosters

Who We’re Looking For
You have a passion for saving animal lives and have a high school or college degree.
You have experience working with animals in a veterinary or shelter setting including assisting during surgeries.
Ideally you have current Wisconsin Veterinary Technician and Euthanasia by Injection certifications.
You have a good command of common medical and surgical equipment and enjoy the busy pace of surgery.
You have a valid drivers license and can follow directions, work hard, and pick up at least a big 50lb bag of dog food.
