The Kiel Veterinary Clinic is a busy, 7 Doctor mixed animal practice. We are seeking a full-time experienced or Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician, but are will to train the right candidate looking to join our hospital team. The right applicant will be expected to operate in a manner that meets or exceeds not only our expectations, but those of our clients and patients.

Seeking an EXPERIENCED Small Animal Veterinary Technician to join our team in Monticello, WI.  This is a small, yet very busy practice that is seeking a technician who is capable of being independent, yet a strong team player, and ready to grow with the company.  The successful candidate will be able to fulfill the duties below and possesses a strong passion for veterinary medicine.

Veterinary Technician Job Duties Include (but not limited to):

  • Technical Duties – Admit patients for in-patient or out-patient procedures and perform a brief physical exam, fill prescriptions authorized and printed by the doctor, take vital signs and prepare vaccines. Able to collect all lab samples (urine via free catch or restrain for a cystocentesis, phlebotomy, feces, ear smears, etc), prepare samples and paperwork to send out or to perform in-house tests, and maintain the laboratory equipment in clean/working condition.  Perform patient treatments ordered by the doctor (medicating, TPR, close observation and charting, monitor hospitalized patients, setup and take digital x-rays, use and understand monitors, dental machines, and anesthesia machines).  Pre-med, induce, and intubate for anesthesia – monitor anesthesia, assess anesthetic risk and communicate clearly to doctor the patient status, prepare patient for surgery using hospital procedure, assist surgeon, calculate drug dosages related to surgery/treatment/anesthesia/critical care/emergency and keep thorough surgery logs and controlled substance logs.  Maintain and prepare surgical equipment, surgery packs, surgical inventory, and surgery suite.  Knowledge of dental terminology, charting, local blocks, procedures and fluid therapy.   Restrain and lift animals for procedures and examinations.  Support animal examinations for the doctor by assembling required equipment and supplies needed for the appointments.
  • MEDICAL RECORDS – Be well versed in hospital software (Avimark – will train if needed), surgical monitoring charts, dental charts, hospitalized patient charts and keep very thorough, legible and professional notes in each. Be able to record TPR’s, thorough medical history (and care plans – both current or previous care), patient status, procedures, treatments, findings, lab results, medications given during procedures or dispensed and discuss discharge instructions with owners.  Thoroughly record conversations with clients on phone or in house including all recommendations, declined recommendations or treatments.
  • HOUSEKEEPING – Keep treatment/surgery/exam room clean and sanitary at all times. Keep exam room in a neat, orderly fashion with all food and items stocked with labels facing outwards.  Keep lab and surgery equipment well maintained and sanitary, be sure cages are cleaned on ALL surfaces, counters, refrigerators, bathrooms, floors and general environment are kept up to hospital standards.  Be prepared to perform routine kennel duties including walking, feeding, medicating, scrubbing, mopping, laundry and having animals ready to go at discharge (medical shirts/e-collars/harness/leashes/etc in place).  Clinic maintenance duties will include daily vacuuming, sweeping, garbage and mopping.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES – Invoicing, faxing, copying, creating various reports from the software, answer phone calls, make appointments, prepare medical records for all types of appointments and stock retail inventory. Learn to exceed our client’s expectations, answer questions, return phone calls, and document in computer conversations held. Excellent reading/spelling/comprehension/writing skills.  Ability to handle/deal with difficult clients and problem solve.  Ability to make rational and effective decisions.
  • INVENTORY – Maintain and record and reconcile controlled drugs. List needed inventory items on ordering list, unpack orders making sure the expiration date it adequate and the proper amount was received/not received, stock shelves with label facing outwards and rotating inventory so that the new is in back and old is in front, monitor for expiration dates and redundant items

Our busy mixed animal practice is looking for a full or part time certified veterinary technician. Responsibilities include assisting with appointments, patient prep and care, client education, laboratory work and multiple other needs.
