Certified Veterinary Technician
New Berlin Animal Hospital is a fast paced, progressive, 5 doctor AAHA Hospital, currently looking to hire a full time Certified Veterinary Technician. We are a small animal/exotic hospital located about 15 miles west of Milwaukee.
Candidates must be Wisconsin State Certified and ideally will hold an associate degree from an accredited Veterinary Technician college. We are looking for someone with strong technical and laboratory skills. An ideal candidate should have strong communication skills, wants to be a team player and be able to multi-task in a variety of areas of a busy hospital. On an everyday basis your duties might include: Induction, monitoring and recovery of anesthesia, a large emphasis in dentistry, digital radiology, technician appointments and client education. Having a strong passion for attention to detail and exceeding client expectations is very important. New Berlin Animal Hospital strives to provide exceptional medical care to our patients.

Position Description

The Veterinary Technician/Assistant position is responsible for responding to incoming cases via the telephone regarding potential adverse events from pet owners and veterinarians related to various animal health products manufactured by an animal health client of SafetyCall. Veterinary Technicians/Assistants provide answers to general inquiries on routine product use, such as clarification and information slated on product labels or inserts, and document lack of efficacy cases, product complaints, customer service and other inquiry cases. The position takes full histories and details of the events, triage the cases and provide accurate medical, health and safety information to the callers. Technicians/Assistants must accurately document each case in an electronic record to facilitate adverse event reporting and to ensure the well-being of the animals.

 

This position is in a call center environment or remote from home if applicable. Given the nature of the position, many pet owners are calling under stressful circumstances and are therefore in distress.  Technicians/Assistants  must be able to manage cases under pressure and be comfortable talking to people in various emotional states.

During the slower season, December-February, this position will be trained on additional duties that may be administrative or phone related.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week. Normal hours are M-F, varying 8 ½ hour shifts between 7AM-7PM CST. April-October, very limited paid time off (PTO) use is permitted due to the work load.

Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  1. 3+ years of work experience as a veterinary technician (non-certified) or veterinary assistant in a veterinary clinic/hospital OR at least 6 months experience working as a CVT/RVT/LVT with an active certification.
  2. Proficiency with keyboarding and data entry, PCs, Microsoft Office, and common computer software and hardware.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication that is clear, concise, professional and empathetic
  4. Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask
  5. Customer service focused attitude and behavior
  6. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  7. Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages
  8. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  9. Ability to work a varying schedule between the hours of 7am-7pm CST.

Candidates who work remotely must have or be willing to obtain and maintain at their expense certain IT requirements including a land line telephone with the ability to connect to a headset (cell phones cannot be used), reliable, high-speed cable modem internet service, PC computer (no Macs) with Windows 10 and the capability to display two monitors. Candidates must also have a designated home office area that meets ergonomic requirements and a locking file cabinet. Remote staff may not have any other responsibilities during the time they are working such as caring for dependents.

Position Description

Position 1# The Industry Representative position is responsible for responding to incoming cases via the telephone regarding potential adverse events from pet owners and veterinarians related to various animal health products manufactured by animal health clients of SafetyCall.  Industry Representatives provide answers to general inquiries on routine product use, such as clarification and information slated on product labels or inserts, and document lack of efficacy cases, product complaints, customer service and other inquiry cases. This position may also respond to and process product refund requests.  Industry Representatives take full histories and details of the events, triage the cases and provide accurate medical, health and safety information to the callers. Industry Representatives must accurately document each case in an electronic record to facilitate adverse event reporting and to ensure the well-being of the animals. Industry Representatives also handle minor human exposures to animal health products.

Position #2: The Veterinary Information Specialist position is responsible for responding to incoming cases on Pet Poison Helpline and SafetyCall’s industry side via the telephone, email, and chat applications regarding potential toxic exposures, poisonings and other adverse events from pet owners and veterinarians related to various household and consumer products, animal health products, plants, OTC products, dietary supplements, prescription drugs, and other chemical exposures. Specialists take full histories and details of the events, triage the cases and provide accurate medical, health and safety information to the callers. Specialists document each case in an electronic record and follow up as necessary to ensure the well-being of the animals and facilitate adverse event reporting on the industry side. Information Specialists also handle minor human exposures.

Schedule

Position #1: Full-time, 40 hrs/week.  Shifts are 8 1/2 hour daytime shifts between 8am-5pm CST.

Position #2: Part Time, weekend shifts.  Positions will work 2-3 weekends (Saturday and Sunday) shifts per month and holidays that fall on scheduled weekends. Shift are 8 1/2 hours and will include mid, evening and late evening shifts between the hours of 10am-12pm CST. While we may be able to work with some scheduling restrictions, flexibility in availability is highly preferred as we operate 24/7.  Overnights are not required.

 

Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Active CVT/LVT/RVT certification.
  • 1+years of work experience in a veterinary clinic/hospital is preferred
  • Ability to work varying shift times and varying days, including weekends as specified above.
  • Proficiency with keyboarding and data entry, PCs, Microsoft Office, and common computer software and hardware.
