UW Veterinary Care at the UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine is in search of a dedicated, motivated and enthusiastic Certified Veterinary Technician to join our Orthopedic team as Orthopedic Coordinator. This position would provide specialized support to the daily operations of the Small Animal Orthopedic Service. UW Veterinary Care is located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in the heart of Madison, a community offering numerous cultural, recreational and educational activities. This is an excellent opportunity to utilize your skills in a progressive, state-of-the-art, fast-paced learning environment.

This is an objective level position providing specialized support to the daily operations of the Small Animal Orthopedic Service. Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational and decision-making abilities, knowledge of specialized services provided by Orthopedics and other clinical services, and an understanding of UWVC referral policies and procedures. Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently and manual dexterity to perform specialized tasks. This position works closely with the Orthopedic faculty on a daily basis and under limited supervision by the Orthopedic Technician Supervisor. Duties include, but are not limited to:

1) Scheduling and coordinating recheck appointments, referral appointments, urgent cases, and referral emergencies for the Orthopedic service, via direct phone contact with clients and referring veterinarians, and communication with the UWVC referral
coordinator and appointment staff.

2) Acting as a Orthopedic liaison to the front desk and other services, and coordinating appropriate ancillary services (anesthesia, radiology) for each appointment as needed.

3) Oversight of the daily Orthopedic receiving schedule to assure that scheduled cases are seen promptly.

4) Review of estimates with clients, collection of deposits, collection of balances, and charge capture for the service. Keep a daily census of hospitalized Orthopedic patients and apprising clients of updates to their estimates.

5) Providing assistance to faculty and house officers with clinically related research.

6) Improving outreach efforts of the Orthopedic service, to include brochures and maintenance of the web site.

7) Assures that high quality nursing care is provided for all patients being seen by the Orthopedic service.

8) Performs duties under limited supervision. This may include working flexible, on-call hours and variable shifts.

9) Assisting the STS department as needed.

10) Participates in instruction of veterinary students and training of veterinary technicians.

11) Monitors veterinary student participation in daily receiving schedules, initiates changes and lends assistance when needed.

12) Assists supervisor in problem solving activities and administrative tasks.

12) Participates and understands the importance of working as a team member within the hospital structure (ie communication with supervisors and faculty for enhancing productivity and quality patient care).

Job duties include (but are not limited to):  laboratory analysis (we have a fully equipped in-hospital laboratory suite including chemistry, CBC, blood gas & coagulation testing), anesthetic induction and monitoring, IV catheter placement, out-patient and hospitalized patient treatments, phlebotomy, cystocentesis (we have an ultrasound you can use!), dental examinations and cleanings, radiology and client education.

If you are a newer CVT or there are areas of practice where you need to hone some skills, we do have an experienced CVT on staff who loves teaching and is willing to be a mentor.

We want to find the right person for the job, so for the ideal candidate we have the flexibility to make this either a PT or FT position.  Our office is open Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm with a nearby ER hospital where we refer after-hour emergency cases to.  We close our office daily from noon until 1 pm to allow you time to take lunch, catch up on errands or go for a walk on the trail that runs right in front of our clinic.

Veterinary Information Specialist-Full Time and Part Time

Are you looking to gain experience in an interesting, new field? Pet Poison Helpline (PPH)/SafetyCall International, PLLC (SCI) may have just what you’re looking for! PPH/SCI is looking to add a full-time (40 hours/week) and part-time (2-3 weekends/month) Veterinary Information Specialists in our office in Bloomington, MN or remote from home if outside of the Twin Cities area.
These positions are in a call center/office environment or remote from home if applicable. Given the nature of the positions, many pet owners and veterinary staff are calling under emergency or perceived emergency circumstances and are therefore in distress. Staff must be able to manage cases under pressure and be comfortable talking to people in various emotional states.
Veterinary Information Specialist Description
The Veterinary Information Specialist position is responsible for responding to incoming cases on Pet Poison Helpline and SafetyCall’s industry side via the telephone, email, and chat applications regarding potential toxic exposures, poisonings and other adverse events from pet owners and veterinarians related to various household and consumer products, animal health products, plants, OTC products, dietary supplements, prescription drugs, and other chemical exposures. Specialists take full histories and details of the events, triage the cases and provide accurate medical, health and safety information to the callers. Specialists document each case in an electronic record and follow up as necessary to ensure the well-being of the animals and facilitate adverse event reporting on the industry side.
Schedule
Full-time, 40 hrs/week. Positions do not have a set schedule. Shift times and shift days will vary and include weekends, typically 2 per month and up to 3 during our busy season, and some holidays. At this time available shifts are 8 ½ hours long and are primarily evening shifts (shift start times are ranging from 2pm-6pm CST and shift end times ranging from 10:30pm-2:30amCST). While we may be able to work with some scheduling restrictions, flexibility in availability is highly preferred as we operate 24/7. Overnights are not required. There is an extensive training program for this position. It will consist of 1-2 weeks full-time remote training. There is also a requirement of 2-3 weeks, full-time that will take place in our office in Bloomington, MN. Candidates outside of the Twin Cities will have hotel and travel expenses reimbursed if applicable.
Part Time, weekend shifts. Positions will work 2-3 weekends (Saturday and Sunday) shifts per month and holidays that fall on scheduled weekends. Shifts are 8 ½ hours and will include mid, evening and late evening shifts between the hours of 10am-2:30am CST. While we may be able to work with some scheduling restrictions, flexibility in availability is highly preferred as we operate 24/7. Overnights are not required. There is an extensive training program for this position. It will consist of 3-4 weeks remote training at 24hrs/week (with some flexibility with scheduling). There is also a requirement of 2-3 weeks, full time (40 hours/week) that will take place in our office in Bloomington, MN. Candidates outside of the Twin Cities will have hotel and travel expenses reimbursed if applicable.
Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. Active CVT/LVT/RVT License
2. 1+years of work experience in a veterinary clinic/hospital
3. At least one year of emergency/critical care experience preferred
4. Ability to work varying shift times and varying days, including weekends as specified above.
5. Proficiency with keyboarding and data entry, PCs, Microsoft Office, and common computer software and hardware.
6. Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages
7. Excellent verbal and written communication that is clear, concise, professional and empathetic
8. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
9. Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask
10. Customer service focused attitude and behavior

Candidates who work remotely must have or be willing to obtain and maintain at their expense certain IT requirements including reliable high speed internet with an ISP that can supply a cable modem internet service with a minimum of 20mb download speed and a PC computer (no Apple computers) with Windows 10 and the capability to display two monitors. Candidates must also have a designated home office area that meets certain requirements and may not have any other responsibilities during the time they are working such as caring for dependents.
